How many of you can remember the last time you looked up a number in the yellow pages? The world has changed in the blink of an eye and yes it is for the better. Ten years ago (before Google) most real estate agents were asking themselves should I have a website or is it just a Phase like bell-bottom jeans? Today the question is “should I Twitter, FaceBook and Blog? And the question is YES! There use to be a difference in real estate buyers some were online or “Internet Buyer” and searching and were very informed and others that need you to “educate” them on market values and such. Today, there is no such thing as an “Internet Buyer” everyone goes to the internet first. It is time for real estate brokers & agents to change their set point and embrace technology. Once you start, you will realize how much of a time saver it is and you can get back to living a more manageable life both business and more importantly personal.
The world is changing faster than our brains can comprehend. Do you know how fast your eye blinks? To find that answer you’d have to look it up in an encyclopedia at home or in the library. Today, a quick search on Google took .22 second which is less than the “blink of an eye” to find hundreds of places with the answer!
If you took all the people on FaceBook and put them in a country, it would be the 6th largest country in the world growing faster than almost any other country.
Twitter spread the news of the Jan 2009 US Airways plane crash in an instant to thousands of people complete with photos. Passengers in the December 2008 Denver crash were twittering that their plane crashed before they exited the plane. No longer do we rely on network news sources for information. Information on real estate transactions is now available from all different sources including photo shots of properties from satellites when we used to have to wait days for film to be developed. Now is the time to position yourself in the real estate industry with a presence on the internet and use the internet as a tool for marketing.
